DOSBox is an incredibly useful tool for running old DOS programs and software components on a Windows PC. It provides a wide range of options for emulating different hardware and software settings, including 286/386 real mode, protected mode, Directory FileSystem, XMS or EMS, CGA, EGA, VGA, VESA graphics, and more. It's easy to use and can be a great way to keep old DOS programs running. Highly recommended!

Downloading DOSBox 1.12 from the developer's website was possible when we last checked. We cannot confirm if there is a free download of this software available. The most popular versions of the software 1.1, 1.0 and 0.7. We recommend checking the downloaded files with any free antivirus.

This free program was originally created by The DOSBox Crew. The program's installer is commonly called dosbox.exe, DOSBoxEd.exe, DOSBoxL.exe, Icon34467E0B.exe or IconAD390ED6.exe etc. DOSBox was developed to work on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 or Windows 11 and is compatible with 32-bit systems. The software lies within Development Tools, more precisely IDE.

From the developer:

DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, MacOS X...

DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games...

You may want to check out more software, such as DOSBox SVN-Daum, Turbo Pascal with DOSBox or RobyDosbox, which might be similar to DOSBox.
