StylePix
Review
StylePix is a free image editor with a number of advanced features. Basically, it looks like an image viewer supplemented with some quick tools for offhand editing: the program allows you to browse pictures, supplying you with some additional information about each image (displaying a multi-channel histogram, or showing the colour code of any given pixel) and several basic tools like cropping, flipping, or rotation.
But there is more to StylePix than that; the advanced tools this program offers, albeit not quite customisable, do assist you in stylising your pictures. For instance, there is an impressive list of blending options for one-shape brushes; combined with a couple of transparency tricks, this can yield somewhat artistic results. The program also supports layers, which can be grouped and aligned in several ways. StylePix also provides you with a set of filters to enhance your images. Some of those filters (like 'Diffuse', 'Glow', or 'Sobel Edge') take after their professional counterparts seen in expensive image processing suites; others, like 'Sharpen' or 'Desaturate', have already made their way into one-button image viewers. StylePix will hardly let you make anything extraordinary out of those filters, given how few parameters those allow you to play with (in most cases, you will only get to change but one setting); but the program's overall editing capabilities are definitely enough to give a fine touch to your pictures.
