mcview is a map viewer for Minecraft Java Edition 1.2.1 or later. You can load a saved game, enter a seed, or get a random map to get started. The color of the map corresponds to the biome. You have the ability to adjust the optical density and make the displayed image translucent.
You may want to check out more software for Mac, such as Map Editor, PPF-O-Matic or ExaChess Lite, which might be similar to mcview.
