AlphaX is the Mac OS X native version of Alpha, developed by the AlphaCabal. It runs on Mac OS X 10.4 or later. It is very easy to upgrade AlphaX's embedded AlphaTcl library via SVN. Unlike previous beta versions of AlphaX, there is no need to download and install the "Tcl" software library separately. Each flavor listed above is upwards compatible, i.e. the Panther version should also work in Tiger.

A wonderful text editor with a wealth of detailed development over a long period of time which has drifted off into limbo somewhat. I've been using it for two decades in various forms for editing source code. I've investigated a few others over the years, especially at times where the Alpha development ground to a halt, but never found any stay with alternatives. So when Alpha rose from the grave, I returned to it. So, it gets five stars from me.
