Description
Pamvotis version 1.1, developed by Dimitris El. Vassis and Vassilis Zafeiris, is a powerful Wireless LAN Simulator designed for the current physical layer extensions of the IEEE 802.11 Standard and IEEE 802.11e Draft for Quality of Service in WLANs. The tool supports various physical layer standards like IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g, making it exceptionally versatile. Users can easily download the application in a small package of only 1.1 MB.
Pamvotis is compatible with a broad range of operating systems, including Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, and 11, given that a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is installed. Its main program file is pamvotis.exe. This compatibility ensures that virtually any computer running a supported OS can efficiently run Pamvotis.
Among its many features, Pamvotis supports data rate agility, enabling nodes to operate at varying data rates based on their distance from the receiver. The simulator also allows for the investigation of the hidden terminal problem and can configure nodes in Line of Sight (LOS) or Non-Line of Sight (NLOS). New in version 1.1, Pamvotis supports multiple sources on each node and a variety of traffic sources including FTP, HTTP, and video traffic, as described in 3GPP TR 25.892 V.6.0.0.
Pamvotis also includes various mechanisms for enhanced network performance, like the CTS-to-Self virtual carrier sense and protection mechanisms specific to the IEEE 802.11g specification. It can simulate extremely long durations, although it's recommended to keep simulations more manageable. More
