Review
Being a handy text editor, TextCrawler stands out from many similar programs due to its simple convenience and efficiency.
What arrests your attention as soon as you launch the program is a compact, modern and user-friendly interface. The main functions of the software are comfortably featured all in one window in the form of buttons.
TextCrawler primarily serves to search folders for words or parts of them and to optionally replace them with other words or expressions. The range of file types the software can work with is relatively large - they are *doc, *txt, *log, *htm, *php, *ini files and some more. After the search is done, which usually takes up just a couple of seconds, the results are listed in the main window. They include not only the names of files where the searched word or expression has been found, but also the number of matches in each file, the path to it and some other information about the file. Highlighting a file in the list lets you get more detailed information about it in a smaller window below.
Among the definite advantages of the program is its Regular Expression Library, that has a small yellow star button. With the help of the library, users can set TextCrawler search the documents for e-mail addresses, IP addresses, HTML tags, dates and copyrights. All of these can then be extracted and saved in a *txt file.
Our only complaint is that the program failed to show the help file during testing. Yet operating the software is not complex enough to consider that a major drawback. Thus we give TextCrawler quite a high mark.
