FitsCast 2.2 was available to download from the developer's website when we last checked. We cannot confirm if there is a free download of this software available. The following versions: 2.2 and 2.0 are the most frequently downloaded ones by the program users.
The software lies within System Utilities, more precisely Device Assistants. This free tool was originally produced by Carsten A. Arnholm. The FitsCast installer is commonly called FitsCast.exe. According to the results of the Google Safe Browsing check, the developer's site is safe. Despite this, we recommend checking the downloaded files with any free antivirus software.
From the developer:
Standard webcams like e.g. Philips ToUcam have been used for webcasts (also astronomical events).
A lot of software exists which can save individual webcam images as JPG-files for immediate broadcast to a website via FTP file transfer.
High quality CCD cameras like the Artemis have a lot in common with webcams.
They are computer controlled and save images continously on the computer hard disk.
You may want to check out more software, such as COMMUNICATE!, GX30 USB-Handset Manager or Novell® ODBC Driver For eDirectory, which might be similar to FitsCast.
