Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging allows you to have private conversations over instant messaging.
With this tool if you lose control of your private keys, no previous conversation is compromised. It has an encryption feature and no one else can read your instant messages.
You may want to check out more software, such as Steganos Live Encryption Engine, Trend Micro OfficeScan or F-Secure Anti-Virus, which might be similar to pidgin-otr.
