There was a download of StartDefrag 1.90 on the developer's website when we last checked. We cannot confirm if there is a free download of this software available. The most popular version among the program users is 1.8.
The software lies within System Utilities, more precisely Backup & Restore. The program's installer is commonly called defragl.exe or startdefrag.exe etc. This program was originally developed by Kevin Gearhart. We recommend checking the downloaded files with any free antivirus.
From the developer:
This program automates scheduling of hard drive defragmentation on the Windows operating system. The standard disk defrag software included with the OS does not support scheduling. Many Windows tips articles recommend defragmenting your hard drives regularly.
Originally developed for Windows 2000, StartDefrag also runs on Windows XP, Windows 2003, and includes limited unsupported functionality for Windows NT 4 (with Diskeeper Lite).
You may want to check out more software, such as Simply Backup CDRW or SAFE Block, which might be similar to StartDefrag.
