Hide My Files is based on a simple but reliable file protection algorithm. When running it for the first time you enter the desired password, so each next time you start the software you have to enter it. The interface is as simple as it could be – a tree view directory and three big buttons: for locking folders, unlocking them and changing your password. You simply select a folder you wish to protect and click the Lock button. The locked folder does not disappear from view completely: the folder name and the folder itself are visible; however, the locked folder is masked with a control panel icon. On trying to open the folder, it will display control panel options instead of its actual contents.
As folders cannot be unlocked without re-opening the program which is password protected, your data seems to be quite secure from unauthorized access. However, note that your documents will be locked but not hidden. The program itself is not invisible either.
Overall, it is up to you to decide if security level provided by Hide My Files is high enough for you. Anyway, we believe that 7-day trial offered by the software is enough to decide if it is what you need.
