From the developer:
copyThing is an application that helps you copy media files from iPhone, iPod, or iPad devices to your iTunes library. With this application, you can transfer music, videos, playlists, song ratings, and more to any iTunes library, without duplicates. This way, you can restore your entire iTunes library with just one click.
You may want to check out more Mac applications, such as PodSalvage, shadowBurn or 4Media iPod Max, which might be similar to copyThing.
