How to block ads on Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer How to block ads on Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer

If you spend a lot of time browsing the web, you've surely come across annoying ads. Whether you watch a YouTube clip, check out your Facebook news feed, or read an article from a blog, the chances are you will encounter at least one ad. Luckily, there are various solutions for getting rid of this irritating aspect. For example, you could install an ad blocker to your default web browser. This tool will prevent any ads from being displayed while you're browsing the web and reduce the amount of time you will be waiting for the website in question to load.

In a previous article, we showed you how to disable ads in Windows 10. In this guide, I will teach you how to block ads on Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

You will need to download the following software to follow along with this tutorial.

Remove ads on Chrome

If you're the type of Windows user whose default web browser is Google Chrome, then your options for ad blocking are almost endless. You can choose from a wide variety of extensions, most of them are available in the Chrome Web Store, they enable you to block any ads that are displayed on the websites you visit. Chrome's website cleanup tool is a great solution, but not the best there is. Personally, I prefer using the Adblock Plus app. This extension is the best ad blocker for Chrome as it's more feature-rich and effective. Unlike many of its competitors, this extension stops pop-ups on Windows 10 without slowing down the performance of your web browser.

Here's how to stop pop-up ads on Google Chrome with Adblock Plus:

Step 1

Using Google Chrome go to this page and click the "Add To Chrome" button. The extension will be installed on your PC. No web browser restart is required.

Step 2

Once the extension is installed on your PC, it will automatically stop Google ads from being displayed. By clicking on its icon (it's normally displayed on the right side of the main toolbar), you will reveal the info about how the app behaves. To be more exact, it shows you how many ads were blocked on Chrome while you were browsing the web.

Optional: You can get access to additional extension settings by clicking its icon and then the "Options" button. You can easily add your own filters, whitelist domains (Adblock Plus is disabled for the indicated domains), etc.

Another solution for blocking ads in Chrome is provided by the AdBlock app. However, in a battle AdBlock vs AdBlock Plus, the latter would definitely win. The reason is that AdBlock might slow down your browser and some ads might still bypass the blocker.

Disable YouTube ads in Firefox

One of the most irritating aspects of watching YouTube videos is the fact that it occasionally displays annoying ads. A solution to get rid of pop-up ads is to install an ad blocker. A good example comes from the uBlock Origin extension, a browser tool for stopping Google ads from being displayed while you're watching your favorite YouTube videos. Here's how you can use this app to disable annotations and pop-ups on YouTube videos while using Mozilla Firefox:

Step 1

Click the "Add To Firefox" button. The extension will be installed on your PC.

Step 2

Go to YouTube website and start playing a video. Click the app's icon from your main toolbar (it's located on the right side of the main toolbar) and enable its blocking feature.

Optional: Click the app's icon from your main toolbar and access the Dashboard panel (by clicking the gear-shaped icon). There you will find additional settings to turn off YouTube end cards, add new filters, disable YouTube annotations, enter your own ad blocking rules, and so much more.

AdBlock Plus is also great for preventing YouTube ads from being displayed. This YouTube ad blocker provides you with additional filtering options and comes without a price.

Get rid of pop up ads on Internet Explorer

The things aren't much different for those who still prefer using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge as their default web browsers. Even though Microsoft Edge provides you with pop-up blocker settings, they aren't as efficient as a third-party ad blocker. So, in my opinion, you should install a third-party extension to block ads on Microsoft Edge in Windows 10.

You can use the AdBlock Plus extension, one of the best ad blockers for Windows 10, to remove ads from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. This app works perfectly on both web browsers. Here I will show you how to install and use the aforementioned extension in Internet Explorer:

Step 1

Click the "Agree and Install for Internet Explorer" button. You will need to restart the web browser in order to enable the ad blocking feature.

Step 2

The extension will immediately start blocking all video ads, banners, or pop-ups from the websites you visit in the Internet Explorer browser.
