For those of you who don't know, HPGL is a vector graphics format that was designed by Hewlett Packard to be used on HP plotters (computer printers created for printing vector images). This type of file contains instructions that are sent to the printer for drawing lines instead of dots in order to create the desired image.
If you are familiar with AutoCAD, then you might already know what a DXF file is. If not, DXF (short for Drawing eXchange Format) is a graphics file format that is commonly used by AutoCAD to store data and exchange it between AutoCAD and various other CAD (Computer-Aided Design) applications.
Therefore, if you want to print AutoCAD designs using an HP plotter, then turning your DXF files into HPGL drawings seems to be a simple solution.
For demonstrating the conversion process, I have chosen Total CAD Converter 3.1 (Shareware $99.90)by CoolUtils Development, because it is a very popular and efficient application that will help you change the format of your files in a simple manner due to the well-organized and intuitive interface that this tool comes with. It can also save you time by converting multiple files at a time (batch conversion)
You will need to download the following software to keep up with this tutorial.
Here is the step-by-step guide that will show you how to convert your DXF files into HPGL vector drawings
Browse to the location of your DXF file and check the corresponding box.
Select HPGL as the output format. You can do that directly form the menu bar or by accessing the "Process" tab (as seen in the image below).
After selecting HPGL as the output format, a new window will appear from where you can change the destination path, choose the color mode, resize and rotate your file. To navigate from one customization option to another all you need to do is use the "Next" and "Back" buttons.
Click on the "Start" button to begin the process.
After the conversion process is complete, the output folder will instantly be opened so that you can quickly access the HPGL file. Actually, nothing else can be said about the task. Turning your DXF files into HPGL format using Total CAD Converter 3.1 is a simple task, thanks to the program's intuitive and well-organized interface. The output file won't contain any watermarks or other unwanted graphical elements.
